Peel and chop the onion. Chop the cabbage finely as well.

Fry the bacon cubes together with the caraway seeds in a pan until hot. Then put them in a bowl and set aside.

In the same pan, sauté the chopped onions with the sugar and caramelize.

Add the chopped cabbage to the pan and pour water so that the cabbage is just covered with water.

Simmer with lid on for about 30 minutes, adding water as needed.

Meanwhile, cook the whole wheat crackers in a pot of salted water until al dente and drain.

When the cabbage is soft, add the bacon and the fritters to the pan, mix everything well and serve the wholemeal cabbage fritters.

Preparation Tip:

If you don't like caraway seeds, leave them out. The bacon is also optional. However, it gives the dish a fine spicy note.
